Getting started: your first edit Start a project, import footage, cut it on the timeline, and export it on your own computer — free, with no account. How the AI Director works The Director is a second operator that edits your timeline by calling the same typed operations your buttons call. Work with the Director Open the Director, pick a mode, approve what it proposes to generate, and undo any pass with ⌘Z. Local-first & accounts Manual editing is free, offline, and account-less. You only sign in to reach the cloud. Move a project to the Cloud Promote a Local project to the Cloud from Home or the top bar; your copy stays on this computer, and nothing spends credits. Where your projects live, and how to back them up A Local project lives inside the app's own data folder, not as a file you can see. Save it as a .horoptic package to back it up or move it. System requirements Horoptic runs on macOS and Windows with a WebGPU-capable GPU, and on iPhone and Android. It is for adults in the United States.
Editing
Trim with the pro edit grammar Split at the playhead, drag or ripple a clip edge, and roll, slip or slide at a cut in the seam. Keyboard shortcuts and your old editor's keymap Switch to a Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Resolve or Avid keymap, rebind any command, and search by name or by key. Add transitions and fades Pick a transition in the Inspector or the Shelf, set its length in frames, and crossfade sound in the Audio tab. Change a clip's speed Set a clip's rate in the Speed tab, fit it to a length with Retime to length, ramp it in pieces, or freeze a frame. Use markers and chapters Drop a marker with one key, edit its label, colour and type, and mark chapters for YouTube and per-chapter files. Animate with keyframes Start a keyframe from the Inspector's stopwatch, edit the curve in the keyframe lane, and pick an ease between keyframes. Key out a green screen Add Chroma key from the Effects tab, pick the key colour, then tune Similarity, Blend and Despill. Grade a clip with a LUT Load a .cube LUT in the Color tab, balance and shape the grade, and check it on the scopes. Add captions to a clip Add a caption in the Captions tab, type and time it, style it, then choose how it ships when you export. Mix audio with the mixer Shape each clip in the Audio tab, then balance tracks in the Mixer: faders, mute, solo and volume automation. Clean up dialogue Shape the tone and remove hum for free in the Audio tab; de-reverb, noise removal and leveling apply in a server master; Isolate voice is a paid pass. Sync clips by sound Select the takes, right-click the one to keep still, and choose Sync to this clip by sound. Edit by transcript Open Words, transcribe the clip once, then select words and cut them; the video closes up behind them. Find the best moments in a long recording In the Words band's MOMENTS tab, find moments, keep or drop each one, and build the cut in place of the recording. Compound clips and adjustment clips Make a compound clip from a selection, open it to edit inside, break it apart again; add an adjustment clip to change everything beneath it. Stabilize shaky footage Add Stabilize from the Effects tab and set Smoothness; it is applied when the master renders on our servers. Organize footage in bins Make bins from the Library's + menu, drag footage into them, and search, filter and sort the pool. Use effects and presets Click an effect card on the Shelf to apply it, manage the stack in the Inspector, and save a stack as your own preset. Relink missing footage Choose Relink to a file…, compare the file with what was recorded, then let Horoptic look in a folder for the rest. Generate video, voice, music and more Ask the Director to generate shots, voice, music and sound; run per-clip AI passes from the clip menu; approve every price first. Restyle a clip Right-click a clip, choose AI passes › Restyle…, describe the look; the restyled version comes back as a new take you compare with Review takes…. Upscale a clip Right-click a clip, choose AI passes › Upscale to 4K…; the sharper copy replaces the source on every clip cut from it, and the original stays as a take. Choose the quality and model for generated video Set Quality on the Director's approval card, open a shot's model list to pick another model, and set the defaults in Project Settings › Generation. Generate voice, music, sound effects and stills Ask the Director in Auto or Produce mode; a voiceover is billed by the length of its script, music and sound effects by their length, a still per image, and each is approved on the card first.
Credits & billing
Credits & billing Credits are prepaid. Generation is spent at the gate; Director turns are metered per turn. A failed job costs nothing. What generation costs Each model is priced separately, so cheap models stay genuinely cheap. You see the cost before a credit moves. Refunds & failed generations A failed generation costs nothing — the hold is released. Spent credits are prepaid and non-refundable.
Exporting & platform masters
Accounts, sign-in & trust
Accounts, sign-in & recovery Sign in with an email one-time code, then add a passkey — it's required before you can spend credits. Lost every passkey? A reset waits 7 days and emails you first. Data export & deletion You can export your data and request deletion. The financial ledger is anonymized, not destroyed, where the law requires retention. Content Credentials (C2PA) on export A master rendered on our servers gets a C2PA provenance manifest by default — always when it holds AI-made media — recording whether a Horoptic AI model made or changed any of it and listing each source clip by hash. Download it beside your master in the desktop app; signing is still to come. Accessibility We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA. This website is checked automatically on every change; the apps have not had a full audit yet. Tell us about any barrier at support@horoptic.com.
