Edit by transcript

Transcribe a clip, read it as text, and cut the video by deleting words — plus removing filler words and tightening pauses in one go.

Updated October 2026

This is the Mac and Windows app. Cutting by transcript is free once a clip has a transcript; making the transcript is a paid step that runs on our servers.

Get a transcript

  1. Select one clip and choose Words on the timeline’s toolbar. The band opens on its WORDS tab.
  2. If the clip has no transcript yet, choose Transcribe (or right-click the clip and choose Transcribe speech…). That asks the Director, which proposes the transcription on an approval card with its price; the transcription runs only if you approve it. Asking the Director is itself a metered turn, like any other (see credits & billing).

Transcribing needs the clip’s media in the Cloud and a sign-in. In a Local project the band says so, and offers no button.

Cut by words

Click a word to start a range — on its own it is already a one-word range — then click another word to end it, and choose ⌫ Cut (or press the Delete key). The material closes up behind the cut. Cut words stay in the transcript, struck through, so you can see what you took out. Each cut is a single change, and ⌘Z undoes it.

A range cannot run across a cut that is already on the timeline, or reach words this clip does not play; the band says which, and changes nothing.

Filler words and pauses

Remove filler words takes out the ums and uhs the transcript marked. Tighten pauses shortens the long silences between lines. Both are free, both work across the whole clip, and both need a transcript first.

Find a word

Type in find to highlight every match; Enter steps to the next one. Finding highlights, it never hides the rest.

Limits

A transcript lines up only at normal speed: on a retimed or reversed clip the band stands down until the clip is back at 1×. Transcribing a clip again replaces its transcript, though the cuts and captions you already made stay as they are.
