HELP
Sync clips by sound
Line up takes from several cameras or a separate recorder by matching their sound, with no clapperboard and no timecode.
Shot the same moment on two cameras, or recorded sound separately? Horoptic can line the takes up by listening to them. It runs on your computer, so it is free and works offline. This is the Mac and Windows app.
Sync takes
- Select the takes you want to line up.
- Right-click the one that should stay where it is — the reference — and choose the sync row; with other takes selected it reads, for example, Sync 2 takes to this clip by sound. (With only one clip selected it reads Sync to this clip by sound and asks you to select the takes first.)
- The reference holds still and the other takes move to meet it. A message lists how far each take moved, or says it was already in sync, and offers Undo.
One sync runs at a time.
When a take is left out
Some takes cannot be synced, and the menu says why before you start: a take that has been retimed (sync before you change its speed), a compound clip, a still image, or a clip with no sound track. If two takes do not share a sound, or one is silent, a steady tone, or under a second long, the sync stops and nothing moves.
⌘Z undoes a sync.
