How the AI Director works

How Horoptic's AI Director edits your timeline — the same operations as the UI, live in front of you, with generation behind the spend gate and the conversation metered per turn.

Updated June 2026

The Director isn’t a chatbot bolted onto a renderer. It’s a second operator on your write-path: it calls the exact same typed operations your toolbar calls — ripple-trim, insert, grade, retime — on the one shared op-log every edit writes.

What that means for you

  • Nothing it does is off the record. Every move is a typed operation on the shared op-log, labeled as the Director’s — real edits you can inspect, trim, tweak, and build on like your own.
  • You watch every move land. Operations apply live on your timeline in front of you — no cutscene, no jump to a finished file.
  • It never generates on its own. Anything that creates media or renders a master arrives as a proposal with a credit total, and nothing is reserved until you approve it.
  • Directing itself is metered. The Director is a large language model, and each turn bills the credits its own reasoning used, drawn from your balance as you go. That part is not a proposal you approve — it is the running cost of the conversation, the same way generation is the cost of a clip. A turn is refused outright if your balance is empty.
