Clean up dialogue
Take out rumble, hum, room echo and background noise, even out a speaker's level, and isolate a voice — what is free, what plays in the preview, and what runs on our servers.
This is the Mac and Windows app. Everything here lives on the Inspector’s Audio tab for the selected clip, except Isolate voice…, which is in the clip’s right-click menu.
Shape the tone
Choose Add tone shaping to open an equaliser, then start from one of its STARTING POINTS: Cut the rumble, Voice clarity, Take out the boxiness, 60 Hz hum or Phone call. For a buzz from mains power, Remove mains hum adds a set of narrow notches. Tone shaping plays in the preview and is free.
Reduce echo, noise and uneven levels
Three more sections each start with an add button and an amount from 0 to 100:
- DE-REVERB (Add de-reverb) reduces the echo of a room on a voice or a single instrument. It needs at least a second of sound to measure; on a shorter clip the export skips it and says so.
- NOISE REMOVAL (Add noise removal) reduces steady background noise, measured from the clip’s own quietest moment. A clip that is never quiet, such as continuous music, has nothing to measure.
- DIALOGUE LEVELING (Add dialogue leveling) brings soft lines up and loud ones down, toward the clip’s own level.
These are free, but they are marked NOT IN PREVIEW: the timeline plays the clip without them, and they are applied when the master is rendered on our servers. An export of a Local project on your own computer leaves them out.
Isolate a voice
Right-click a video clip, or a sound clip detached from one, and choose Isolate voice… to keep the voice and drop everything else. On a video clip it is under AI passes. This is an AI pass that runs on our servers: it needs a Cloud project and a sign-in, it is priced per started minute in credits, and you see the price before anything is spent. The result replaces the source’s sound in every clip cut from it, so it plays in the preview and the export alike; the original stays in Review takes….
To even out loudness across clips, see Normalize in mix audio with the mixer. ⌘Z undoes any of these changes.
