Work with the Director
How to open the AI Director, choose what it may do this turn, approve or reject a generation, undo its edits, and re-roll or report a shot.
The Director is part of a Cloud project, so it needs an account and credits. Keys below are the defaults; on Windows, ⌘ is Ctrl and ⌥ is Alt. For what the Director is, see how the AI Director works.
Open the Director
Choose the DIRECTOR tab on the right edge of the editor, or press ⌥3 (Park · open the Director). You can also right-click a clip and choose Ask the Director about this clip….
In a Local project the panel says The Director comes with Cloud. Choose Sign in / Promote to Cloud to bring the project to the cloud; until you do, manual editing carries on, free and offline.
Choose what it may do this turn
Under DIRECTOR MODE, beside the message box, pick a mode for the next message:
- Auto — plan, edit and produce.
- Plan — it reads the timeline and suggests; it won’t touch the timeline.
- Edit — timeline moves only: trim, move, ripple, captions. No generation.
- Produce — it proposes new shots, voice or music, plus the timeline moves a new shot needs.
Every message is billed for the Director’s own work, in every mode: each reply shows what it cost, in credits.
Approve or reject what it generates
When the Director wants to generate something, it shows a proposal in the conversation with its credit total. The proposal’s credits are reserved only when you choose Approve · … (the button carries the total); choose Reject and the proposal costs nothing. The message that produced it is billed either way, as above. A large total asks you to confirm once more. You can change a shot’s quality or model on the proposal first, which re-prices it at no cost.
Approved shots appear on the timeline in the slot the Director placed them in. If a generation fails on our side, you aren’t charged for it.
Undo the Director’s edits
⌘Z undoes the Director’s last pass as one step, the same as your own edits, and ⌘⇧Z brings it back. Each reply also has its own ↩ UNDO THIS PASS.
Re-roll, compare or report a shot
Right-click a generated clip:
- Re-roll shot… makes a fresh take for credits and keeps the current one as an alternate.
- Review takes… compares the takes; choose Make keeper on the one you want.
- Report bad result… tells us what went wrong. If the render failed on our side, you were never charged for it.
