Refund & Cancellation Policy

Failed generations release your credits automatically. Successful generations you simply dislike are not refunded — and cancelling never takes your purchased credits away.

DRAFT Not yet in effect
Draft — placeholder pending legal review, not yet in effect. This draft is illustrative only. Nothing here is in effect or enforceable until a reviewed version is published. It is not legal advice.

The principle

You see the price before a generation runs, and nothing is reserved without your explicit approval at the gate. (Directing itself is the one exception: each Director turn is metered as you go rather than proposed for approval.) In exchange, this policy is deliberately simple, and stated up front rather than discovered after the fact:

  • A generation that fails costs you nothing. Your credits are released automatically.
  • A generation that succeeds costs credits, even if you don’t like the result.

Failed generations

If a generation fails, errors, or is refused before producing a result, the credits held for it are released back to your balance automatically. You do not need to ask, and there is nothing to claim.

This is how the credit system works, not a discretionary gesture: credits are held when you approve a generation and only settled when it produces a result. If a job never reaches one, the hold is released in full. When a model provider charges Horoptic for an attempt that failed, Horoptic absorbs that cost — it is not passed on to you.

Successful generations

Generation models are creative tools, not deterministic ones. A result can be technically successful and still not be what you hoped for — a framing you dislike, a performance that misses, a look that isn’t right.

Those generations are not refunded. The compute was purchased and consumed on your instruction, and the output was delivered. This is why Horoptic shows the cost before you approve, and why it favours small, iterative generations and per-shot re-rolls over regenerating whole sequences.

We would rather state this plainly than imply a satisfaction guarantee we do not offer.

Reporting a poor result

You can report a poor result from within the app, and we read those reports — it is how systematically bad output gets spotted and fixed.

To be unambiguous: it is a quality signal, not a refund request. Reporting a result does not release credits and does not open a claim.

Two kinds of credits

Cancellation treats these differently, so the distinction matters:

What it isWhat happens at the end of a billing period
Plan allowanceThe credits included with an active subscription.Reset, not carried over. Each period starts with a fresh allowance; unused allowance from the previous period does not roll over.
Purchased creditsCredit packs you buy outright, separately from a plan.Never expire. They are not reset, and they are never taken back.

When you generate something, your plan allowance is used first and your purchased credits second — so the credits that expire are always spent before the ones that don’t.

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time from your account, in the app — no email, no phone call, and no third-party portal to find. Cancellation stops future renewals; it does not retroactively refund the period you have already paid for.

What cancelling does not do:

  • It does not take your purchased credits. Credit packs you bought outright remain yours and remain spendable after a subscription lapses.
  • It does not disable the editor. The Horoptic editor is free, offline, and account-less. Manual editing continues to work without a subscription and without an account.

What cancelling does affect are the subscription features — cloud sync across devices, and the commercial-use licence — along with your plan allowance, which stops renewing.

Payments

Payments for subscriptions and credit packs are handled by our payment provider, and appear on your statement accordingly.

Where you have a statutory right to a refund of a payment — for example under consumer-protection or distance-selling law in your jurisdiction — that right is unaffected by anything on this page. Horoptic is the seller of record, so those requests come to us directly, at the contact address in the footer, rather than to a third party. Horoptic does not offer a discretionary cash-back programme on top of those rights.

Disputes and chargebacks

If you dispute a charge with your bank or card issuer, we are notified, and your account is placed on hold while that dispute is open. We would rather state that here than let you discover it.

The hold is deliberately narrow. While it is in place:

  • Spending pauses. Generations cannot be approved, Director turns are refused, and new projects cannot be promoted to the cloud. Your credits are not removed or reduced — they simply cannot be spent until the hold lifts.
  • Everything else keeps working. You can still sign in. The editor keeps working exactly as it does for everyone — free, offline, and account-less. You can still export your work, read your full credit history, and delete your account. A payment dispute never becomes a way to hold your data.

If the dispute is resolved in your favour or withdrawn, the hold is released automatically. A hold we place ourselves — for abuse, rather than a payment reversal — is lifted only by us, and the contact address in the footer is how to reach us about one.

Raising a dispute is always your right. Contacting us first is usually faster when something has gone wrong with a charge, but nothing on this page asks you to give up a remedy your bank or the law gives you.

Status

Payments are not yet active. Horoptic is in an invite-only closed beta and no charges are being taken. This policy takes effect before the first payment is accepted.

Questions about a specific generation or charge can be raised at the contact address in the footer.
